Am I allowed to re-enter Canada?

As I'm sure you're all aware, IRCC is terrible for finding the answers you need.

So, I'm from the UK awaiting spousal sponsorship (common-law partner) in Canada.

I have a visitor record valid until 25th December 2018, and I just received a work permit valid until 2020.

I would like to leave the country for a couple of weeks in September 2018, to go to England, will I be able to get back in and everything still be valid?

I also don't have an entry stamp in my passport from my previous entry.
Any help would be great, thanks.

If you have just received a work permit, your visitor record is null and void. It's overridden by your new work permit. You are allowed to stay in Canada until your work permit expires in 2020.

Yes you are "allowed" to leave Canada and re-enter, but the work permit does not guarantee re-entry the same way being a citizen or PR does. As long as you don't have any problems with overstaying, criminal record, etc. you should not have any issues re-entering Canada on a work permit.

Keep in mind that if you are refused entry for whatever reason your application will be cancelled and you will have no chance to appeal.

Make sure you bring a letter of employment, copy of a lease, aor1, sa, aor2 just to ensure you have documentation showing you are established here.

Okay thanks! So I won't necessarily be 'guaranteed' re entry until the common-law/PR visa comes through? But assuming there's no problems and I bring proof I'm settled and have responsibilities here, then I should be good to get back in?

Its not very often that good decent law abiding people are refused entry. My husband was given 3 'allowed to leave' notices in a 3 month span. AKA he 'withdrew' his application to enter Canada. At this point we are just waiting for DM & PPR. He currently has a stamp in his passport that makes it easy for him to cross until the end of August, we are hoping to be close to finished this process by then.

i agree that it is not common, however it has and does happen so its always important to go into things knowing everything that can happen!

This is true, but functionally it has the exact same impact on an inland application - whether you are denied entry, or have to "withdraw" your attempt to enter Canada, the end result is the same. You must be living in Canada to apply inland, so if you cannot physically re-enter Canada after leaving, your application is deemed abandoned. (Relevant as it seems the OP has applied inland).

Hi,

I have the same question. I applied inland in October 2017 and when I entered Canada I was using TRV and it was stamped on my passport that I'm allowed to stay til March 2018. I received my OWP in February 2018 and did not exit the country, and now I plan to go to the US for a short trip. Will the stamp on my passport be a problem ? Are we supposed to exit the country and re-enter again with TRV and valid work-permit? My TRV is still valid til 2020.
