my father was born in the US to a Candian citizen, in 1936. I was born in the US in 1973. Am I possibly a citizen?

Based on the very limited information you have provided, I doubt that you are.

What further information would one need? I know that the dates are important. My grandmother was not an American citizen, but Canadian, born in the Eastern Townships, if that helps. My father never claimed his Canadian citizenship, if that is important as well. Anyhow. Thanks.
It all depends on what your father's exact status was at the moment of your birth. Had he asserted his right to citizenship etc?
The formal answer is to apply for a Citizenship Certificate. Let IRCC do that determination.

You should therefore probably select the "Born on or after January 1, 1947, and neither of my birth parents was a Canadian citizen when I was born" option.
However, the answer must come from IRCC, as per my previous post.
If your father was born in the USA in 1936 to a Canadian-born mother (as opposed to a Canadian-born father), he would not have been a British subject at birth. And, he would not have become a Canadian citizen in 1947 (unless born out of wedlock). If your grandmother never became a U.S. citizen, however, she would have become a Canadian citizen in 1947, and your father would have become one as of 2009. Because you are in the second generation born abroad, you did not inherit Canadian citizenship.

Actually, since his father would have become a Canadian citizen as of 2009 retroactive to 1947, it would be fine to select: "Born between January 1, 1947, and February 14, 1977, and at least one of my birth parents was a Canadian citizen when I was born." Then: "He or she was born outside Canada to a Canadian parent", and "Neither of my parents applied for citizenship", and finally that the OP's birth was not registered. Answer: "You are probably not a Canadian citizen."
If the OP was born after 1977, the path is a bit different, but the result is the same.
