Hi All,

My wife and I are Canadian PRs and we have one month old baby born outside Canada. I am now trying to apply for Canadian PR for my kid. Not sure how long it is going to take, so I might try to apply for TRV or TRP for my kid (please correct me if I am not talking right).

I am aware that someone would be eligible for OHIP only after staying for 3 months in Ontario. But, if I am bringing my NEW BORN kid to Canada, I would like to know the alternative insurance. Please someone help me in this regard.

Thanks a lot in advance.

You would require a form to show Approval in Principal of your child's PR application before you could apply for OHIP coverage for your child.
So your child's PR application would have to be submitted and processed to the point of receiving Approval in Principal.

Update *** I checked the OHIP website, and it shows there are some limited circumstances when a person (your infant) might qualify for OHIP coverage while they are living in Ontario on a Trv. You would have to contact OHIP to get a clear understanding of their eligibility criteria and how it would apply to your baby.

There are private companies which provide health insurance, which you could google online. Perhaps Blue Cross is one way, but there are others as well. I don't know what the premium would be to provide health insurance to a newborn for 6 months or a year.
