I am a Plastic surgeon and immigrated to Canada in 2009 but could not find even an odd job to support my family, so I had to come back to my home country. My wife has an MBA(HR) and we were hoping that at least one of us could find a job. She did get a sale person job in a retail store but was hardly making 350$ a month.
We plan to come back to Canada and try our luck once again. It would probably be like repeating the same mistake twice but we still want to give it another shot. We are planning to do some courses that would help us get better jobs.
Can anyone help me in this regard. what are the alternate professions that i can apply for and whom should I contact regarding these?
Any suggestions for both my wife and I are welcome.
Thanks
AT.

Hi there are many health related courses in Technical schools like health care manager , even doing MPH will give you lot of jobs or you can apply to become an surgical assistants . Please go into ontario colleges. ca and then from there choose a variety of short term course like anesthetic assistants etc and then after schooling for some time you can get 50 grants and in the mean time you could give MCCQE and series. Hope it will be of some help.Good luck.

Sweeper, Taxi driver, Salesman, Security guard, Warehouse Loader, Pizza Delivery boy, household cleaner are the few alternate jobs for survival.
If nothing works out sit in a subway station and play a harmonium or guitar or violin. Canadians are passionate for these soft music strings and this will not come under begging ACT.
Please dont write these type of remarks. Very negative approach. These jobs are well known to every one.

shibuya I have seen your comments else where also same negative
This type of mentality and attitudes will never survive in Canadian society, nor acceptable. Canadian society and people respecting all professions equally.
Physicians are having the same respect like any other part of the world their process is lengthy but by end of the day very worthy.
May I ask you why you are in ques and waiting long ans wasting lot of money and then coming here for what to criticize Canada ?
You should stay in your country with lot of respect (so called). You may have nothing to do every where pocking the nose, like expert ?
Your post are not help full like other members specially like qorax, PMM, leon, wilson, hmisabpk, kenamen, SXTD, Saki, mattes ... and so on and so on
many members are getting help, benefits, and guidance from there posts and replies, That why you have more then 3000 post and 400 negative point.????

If you can'y write any thing help full or positive do not write then, stay quite... so call expert. ?
sorry to say this is very negative approach, (shameful for getting PR) should think play with others felling ??
I am also Doctor and we know that we have to go through hardship.

Dr. Jhon ,
I have really not tried to make a mockery. What I put up is the ground reality. Very few lucky people get a chance to get their desired jobs in Canada. For a start one should be ready to do all the various jobs I mentioned above without any ego. I LOVE CANADA and I am willing to even work as a sweeper if thats my fate. To survive in Canada one need to do odd jobs in the initial stage and gradually try to get in their stream as situations becomes clearer. For regulated jobs people need to be more cautious since the licencing part takes a lot of time and in between if he was to even survive by driving a cab he should whole heartedly do it as the sun rises again.
My quote was to ATKHAN who started this thread that how come he could not even find a survival job. Maybe he lacked networking or was not ready to downgrade his resume.

Thanks to all those who made encouraging comments about my post and tried to help out. As for Shibuya's comments, really hurt me but Ive risen from it and would advise everyone not to even give a thought to negative people like that.

I tried to find a survival job and both my wife and I were regularly visiting different settlement agencies but as someone mentioned, 2009 was a bad economic year. So, we were in the right place but at the wrong time.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stoop to Shibuya's level and start begging in subways!

I plan to come back to Canada in a couple of months and would seek your guidance. Please keep me posted if there are any new positive developments for doctors. Hopefully, it would be a better experience this time.

Dear Atkhan,

Is it possible to start a small business over there.
I am also doctor and working as dermatologist but now

If I get visa. I will strat small Business over there.

your wife is MBA , i think it will be better to start small business instead of job
( just my sincere suggestion)

hi,
I am a dentist. I have known from the people there that dentist and ofcourse rather all doctors have a very tedious procedure. I understand that canada is a very gd place but if u dont have a gd job it is very very tough. moreover, if u r with ur wife n children all the more struggle. I am sure people u have applied under the immigrant category must have been doing decent enough in their own country. Now the question is that r u willing to do short courses and work as assistants or rather any other job which may not be directly related to ur field of expertise. It is definately a personal choice. hence i urge people especially doctors to please weigh the time, money n effort u put in and the results u expect. ! more option if u have not tried may be research n academics if it is possible. I think this is possible only if 1 has particular interest in doing it. but surely these jobs are much better. Also remember to get to these jobs is again very difficult n time consuming. But u can give it a shot.

regards

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes that is definitely a good option, provided you have the money to invest. It is a good option though but we've never been into business before and frankly have no idea how to go about it. I don't mind studying again for my license but only if it took less than 5 to 7 years. By the time I am through with it, I would be near retirement!
We ve never been into business on our own and frankly have no idea how to go about it. Any suggestions!

Thank you. I ve been searching for short courses that I can do and have found some advanced laser courses that I think are related to my profession. Do you know anything about how to become a surgical assistant or how do you get into research in academics. Do you mean medical academics or something else. and do you have to go to college for this and if yes then for how long and where.
Regards.
