What did I do to get the job? Well, I had almost 3 years time to prepare (while waiting for PR) and make contact online to all sorts of hotels and HR people using linkedin.com and other channels. Having visited Vancouver several times and always made appointments with people, I was later able to drop some names to prospective employers. In my industry it is not what you know, it is who you know.
Since I am no Doctor, Nurse, Lawyer or Engineer or else, no one asked me about my degree or certifications, education plays only a small part, it is the years of experience you bring with you.
That is basically it, but as I said, it worked in my case. Others may find the job finding experience different.
