Hi all,
We got the visa stamped and got CoPR. Oct 2019 applicant. But CoPR says not valid for travel. I am in Canada and I am PR holder. Can my wife now travel with this CoPR or not as letter also states that spouse with partners in Canada with citizenship or PR can travel. What documents should she carry with her for immigration. Will she be allowed to board the plane or not. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks alot.

Congrats man. Yes, your spouse can travel. The COPR document itself is not valid for travel but the PR Immigrant Visa stamped in the passport is the document that makes your spouse eligible for travel.

All the best and hope your wife is prepared mentally for the Canadian winter! Cheers.

Thanks for the quick response. Really looking forward to see my wife. Do she have to carry any documents showing I am in Canada or just the passport and copr are good.

I don't think they are essential but I am not sure.

To be on the safe side, just make sure your wife has a copy of your PR card handy and maybe a credit card bill or something with your address in it. I do believe these are not required though.

This may help.

You must have a plan to quarantine for 14 days when you arrive in Canada, including

  • a place to stay
  • how you’ll
    • get to your destination
    • get your groceries
    • access essential services and medical care
This plan is mandatory, even if you have no symptoms. If you don’t have a plan, you should not travel to Canada. Otherwise, you may not be allowed to enter the country. A border services officer will determine if you can enter the country.

The penalties for not following your quarantine plan once you’re in the country can include

  • a fine of up to $750,000
  • 6 months of jail time
  • being found inadmissible, removed from Canada and banned from entering for 1 year
