Hi,

1. SUITCASE :

Problem comes when you need to stash small things. It's better to rely on adventure backpack (of Indian Army) to stash all required things. At least you can attach one sleeping bag (of around 1.5 Kg weight) with your backpack. Suitcase may not be a good option for stashing purpose.

2. COOKING APPLIANCES

: It's better to checkout utilities included in your rent. In my case, I got 3 offer (Rent range: CAD 450 to 500/month/a room in a shared house) and utilities include refrigerator, oven and all required cooking utensils. So, why not first check out utilities offered.

3. BLANKET:

Instead of carrying a heavy blanket, I highly recommend one sleeping bag (brand: Only Indian Army). I do not think if blanket is enough to keep you well. In India, the cost of good quality Army sleeping bag is around CAD 32 (Rs. 16,00/).

4. BUSINESS SUITS:

If you are a prospective business student and required a business suit (as a part of your studies), I recommend buying the same from India. You may find business suits quite expensive in Canada.

Even i knw tat these things are cheaply available there, but i dun think so tat one wil prefer doing shoping there in starting days coz there wil be many other things 2 do also lik luking for accom, bus route, bank acc, frnds to share accom.so schedule wil bcom so busy in starting days tat shoping wil bcum hard job,n one more thing in starting days the money we wil be having with us is tat vich we hav cnvrted frm india n thus price of things wil seem to be bit similar there n even few things we wil feel tat are costly there..but once we start earning there then m agre wid u tat they wil bcum cheaper for us. So i wil prefer tat one shud tak al these things wid dm :)

Once you are there, don't do currency conversion on every purchase.

When you will reach there, you will staying with some friends or relatives. You will be using their kitchen stuff. You must keep immediate necessary things i.e. shaving kit, tooth brush and paste, perfume, hair gell n hair brush etc, but for other things you can do grocery on any weekend.

Take everything easy. China markets and Dollar shops are there to facilitate new comers.

From my experience, most the things in the list are not required to be carried all the way! EVERY SINGLE thing is available over here. You can always start off with few of the necessary stuffs like few cosmetics and grooming utilities, pen, pencils, dry food, etc. But everything else is completely unnecessary. Just utilize your weight with proper things that you might be needing as soon as you get here.

About clothing and blankets, most of them will not survive the weather and water over here. So think twice.

Grab some slippers since they are quite expensive over here compared to the sub-continent.

Bring some medications (the ones you might be needing shortly) because it might take some time to get your insurance over here and buy the substitute medication that you need.

I brought in pillows since all the pillows over here are really soft and it's kinda uncomfy :|But make sure you find out the standard sizes of pillows used over here.

Bring some bed sheets since they are really expensive over here.

I would suggest to bring as many pants as you can because short guys (like me) will have big problem of cutting the extra length (which is very expensive over here).

Don't bring any sort of detergent powder since they don't washes off well in the public washing machines. Try to avoid all sorts of power stuffs in luggage since they are always suspicious of powdered stuffs.

And if you have driving experience, don't forget to bring the license!

And it is funny how the list did not mention about bringing your old certificates and official docs :p

I have a question here . . .
as utensils are normally really heavy like frying pan, pressure cooker and stuff like dat . . . it would certainly weigh you back as far as the luggage is concerned. as their is a limit to what you can carry in terms of weight. so taking these items from here means 1 can carry less of other important stuff, like clothing etc.
