I am currently a PhD student in Canada and I want to call my wife and son to on TRV. My wife is unemployed. I have the following documents to be sent with the application to CHC Islamabad

1. Cover Letter
2. My Invitation letter stating that my family is coming to visit me and they will be staying at my residence (notorized)
3. TRV application form
4. Family Information form
5. Schedule 1
6. Travel History form (wife traveled to USA, Oman and KSA)
7. Property in the name of my wife
8. Her father's bank statements along with mine (total of $30,000 for 5 months visit)
9. My T4A form
10. Marriage certificate
11. Birth certificate of my son
12. Family extracts of my family and my wife's
13. Copy of my student permit
14. Copies of translations of original documents (ID card, marriage certificate, birth certificate of my son) all notorized
15. University Health Insurance Policy (The policy states that the student's family members will be given health policy once they are enrolled)
16. Letter from university stating that I am a currently enrolled as a graduate research assistant with on CND $33,000 per annum.
17. Fee payment

Kindly guide me if these documents show sufficient ties of my wife and son back in Pakistan and whether I should apply for TRV single entry or multiple.

As a general rule, short term visitor trvs have a high chance of refusal for spouses of some body on study or work permit in Canada.
The reason is simply that it generally is improbable for a family going there on a short visit. You usually want to live with your spouse.

Although you seem to have pretty good profile over all, why do you want to apply for a visit of 5 months?

Why can't you simply apply for them to stay with you for as long as you are there? They would undergo medicals in Pak but then would be eligible for healthcare in Canada and kids can go to school.

Till my last knowledge, there is no longer an option to apply for single entry trv. All applications are treated for multiple entry trvs as far as i remember.

This would take the same processing time as work permit (3 - 8 months) but i don't see a reason why this could be refused.
