I am going St. John's , NL also. I talked with a travel agent they said Turkish will be a good choice & cost will be about 95,000 BDT.

Is it upto St. John's or Toronto? Did u book ur ticket already? Inbox me ur travel agent address plz.

That sounds like quite an amount. All flights will go through Toronto. Have you tried Etihad, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific or even Air Canada?

Yaa, the price seems too much for me also. All those routes by Emirates or Qatar have joint venture with Air Canada. But Etihad flight only upto Toronto, they have no Air Canada link for St. John's. Cathay is good for west southern part, but for eastern part they charge high.

Ur CGPA is good enough for getting full fund. Start emailing to the professors about stating ur research interest. If some one reply back, then try to convince him and request for funding in ur MSc. GRE is not required for most of the Canadian universities (Check the uni requirements, if its stated as mandatory only then sit for GRE), Otherwise only USA need GRE. In my opinion, u should join in ur faculty first then try which will increase ur possibility for getting acceptance with better funding in top ranked unis.

By the way, from which uni u finished ur BSc?

@rasel: For the price of air ticket anything over BDT 1,00,000 is too much I reckon. When I travel in London its around BDT 30,000-40,000. Ideally for Canada it shouldn't be more than BDT 80,000 - 90,000.

Also two questions if you can answer pls

1. Do I need to include a written explanation as to the source of funds? What should my sponsor write in there?

2. Is it ok if i submit my application in VFS chittagong? Does it cause any delay if submitting to VFS Chittagong? Does it provide the same service as VFS DHaka, like submitting the passport etc.? I live in Chittagong, thats why I am asking

1. I think Affidavit of Sponsorship will do the work, where ur sponsor will mention his/her income sources. Beside u can show sponsor's business documents (Audit Report)/employment documents (Salary A/C statement) etc. which will prove his/her's deceleration. U can ask some self-funded students about it, they can give u more idea about it.

2. Everything is same. But when u will get medical call, u have to come Dhaka for doing ur Medical. Coz all the panel physicians r in Dhaka and have to submit that receipt after medical to VFS Ctg. Other then that, VFS Dhaka is very crowdy place, so officers there r busy always, have less time to check ur papers then VFS Ctg. officials (In my point of view).

I didn't submit any extra written explanation about source of funds, I use only "Affidavit of Financial Support" by notary public.

Self funded students means who will get his total expenditure during his study from his parents/relatives/himself other then university provided fund. They tends to submit more papers to prove the solvency of their sponsors. They show huge amount of money from sponsors, so they need to show proper documents, like where his sponsor earn this money! Visa officer keen to know, this sponsor's money is genuine or borrowed from others or black money.

Most of my funding came from my university, thats why I only show my BDT 5 lac FDR in my father's name for safety (Actually that was my money ). Nothing else. So, I didn't need to show much papers to prove that my father can earn this 5 lac taka himself, lol.

There are three questions to be answered but I am not sure how to answer no. 1 & 3

1. I have had 3 passports so far. At the moment I have only 2 passports (since 2006) current and previous ones, copies of which I am including with my application. Since I am including 2 passports shall I just mention 2 passports? I am afraid if i mention 3 than they might want to see my first passport (2001-2006) as well.

2. No citizenship of another country.

3. This question is really confusing. What do they mean?


I lived in UK from 2007-2012

but also visited india in 2010, 2008, 2005 as tourist. 2003 in Nepal as tourist. Do I need to mention all these in the field? I can't really show the 2005 and 2003 tour as it is in my first passport which expired way back in 2006
