I have an account with CIBC, but I think its much easier to make any transaction with the debit card atleast until you get your credit card.

Just make sure to ask for unlimited chequing account, so that you can use it whenever its required..(I even use it for 2-3 dollar expenditure !). You can get that machine everywhere when you are buying something. However, keep some cash only for emergencies.
Buying anything using the savings account will charge you $5 per transaction, so try to put more money in chequing account (use internet banking to transfer balance from savings to chequing account.)

ATM machines can be found in many places, but I think not so frequent as I am used to back in home.

Having a credit card is must as it will develop the credit history. Just maintain the regular payment from the account's chequing account.

Thank you Shah Bhai for your suggestion. Monthly fees koto in CIBC for saving/chequing accounts ?

I came across RBC & they are offering a new customized banking package for Newly Landed Immigrant with no credit history.
RBC offer = Credit Card + Bank Locker + Chequing Account (the chequing account is called "RBC Signature No Limit Banking® account")

But in this package you have to take "RBC Signature No Limit Banking® account" whose monthly fee is CA$ 14.95, but the credit card & BankLocker are free of charge. The web address of the offer is:

Ziaul Vai,
B4 did not supplied at plane, they provide “landing card declaration form” where you need to mention how much currency you carry.

Chequing account in CIBC is free (or I think can be waived for new comers), and its really useful. So please keep this in the priority list while opening an account with any bank.

I didn't use bank locker (and don't think CIBC got any free locker service) and not sure how it would helpful to me, so not much worried about it..

If you have any previous credit cards (Mastercard/Visa), please bring that along with you, as it will help you in many cases. (Buying phones etc.). You can also apply for a credit card here, which could come in 2-4 weeks time.

Hope that helps.

The last thing is:

Happy Canada day to Everyone !

Hope all of our thriving forum members to attend this festival in near future !
