Steps Before Residing to Canada:
Dear Mates, I hope all of us from this forum will be residing to Canada inshallah today or tomorrow. I have lived in few countries like Singapore, Australia and from my experience residing at those places, one should take precautions and measures as well as do some shopping before departing from the motherland Bangladesh.
Step One: Make Yourself Ready
1. Close all belongings from Bangladesh as you already have spent a huge amount of money and time to get approved as a permanent resident of Canada. If you leave ties and belongings you may not be successful over there. Always think positively that you have to be successful over there. It depends on how you are established here.Take time and think twice and you may have to make some adjustments depending on your specific situation
2. Learn driving and get driving license from Bangladesh. You might be able to drive at least for 3 to 4 months by the license and it will help you to get Canadian driving license. It is much more difficult and expensive to learn driving from countries like Canada.
3. Pay a visit to the doctors for medicine and dental treatment. Its always better for anyone to get done with the dental problems before go to any country.
4. Go for meditation class and prepare yourself as a person. Meditation always helps to keep you away from bad jilts and grow self confidence. There is a meditation class going on once in every month and its really good. See the news paper adds.
5. Go for shopping. When you go to the shops you might be advised by some people to get the shopping done from “BangoBazar” or “New Market”. It is wrong. Please remember, you are going to a first world country not a third world country like Somalia or Mozambique. Always buy the good quality clothing for you. Buy Shirts (Executive & Casual), Trousers (Formal & Casual), Sweaters, Jackets, Salwar Kameez, Saree, Shoes, Undergarments etc. Please remember clothings are very expensive in all first world country. Pay a visit to “ Grace Galleria” a brand shop and is quite good for quality products. It is in Moghbazar (opposite of Moghbazar Wireless Gate) and in the 1st floor of Grand Plaza Shopping mall. You need to take as many casual wear as you can and a ransom figure of Formal wears. You should shop at least for 2 years. Bongobazar, New market and Hawkers Market opposite to Dhaka College is the best place to buy cloths for Canada because you need to buy bulk quantity mostly winter cloths for at least two / three years. So it is not wise to buy so called costly items. Mind it the markets referred to do sell export quality products (which are exported to FIRST WORLD) from garments factory which are sold in Canada at least 10 to 20 times (depends on specific garments) costlier. Ladies do buy shirts/pants/t shirts/trousers / shoes as you will need to wear these whether you like or not as the weather there will not allow you to wear 'saries' and 'salwars' except in the house or in family get together.
6. Take some essential medicines with you. You may find panadol as a replacement of paracetamol but for amodis what you will ask the over the counter medicine shop. So be careful.
7. Take audio cds and dvds for entertainment. Take a mega hard disk with you loading your needs.
8. Take “tuki taki” with you. Take your resume with you. And make two resumes, one elaborating customer care skills and other management or your professional skills.
9. See your relatives before you go.
10. Go to Gym and fit yourself. You need to be fit once you go there. So prepare before you depart. You may need to walk more than 4-5 miles a day and this is quite a normal thing over there. Every body walks over there and girls are quite hard working. They work on by standing for 8-10 hours a day. So guess what I am talking about. Go to Gym and fit yourself
<<<Exactly!! There is no place for unfit people there!!
Step Two: Prepare yourself for a new life
1. Once you reach the dreamland, do not look for jobs straight away. Give yourself at least two weeks to prepare. So by the first two weeks you should catch trains, buses, talk to people, mocking around the streets, ask people, buy things, get to know the culture, see what is halal and haram, find places by yourself etc.
2. When you go searching for work, take both type of resumes and provide whatever your common sense says to. Always keep a smile on your face and say ”I am looking for a job” or “is there any position vacant for me” and something like that. People over there are very straight forward and naturally they don't lie. Resume to be constructed as per job requirement. Every-time you apply you need to modify your resume. So resume made here are of little use. But you can take soft copy to edit and modify. Moreover, in Canada resume is different from here.Age,gender, religion and other personal detail are prohibited. So be prepared to attend resume preparation course conducted for free by government funding.
3. Once you found the job, it might not be the job that you were anticipated, so keep searching in the news paper. There are classified and job sections in the most of their newspaper. So keep looking.
