Hi, I am studying in Business-Accounting 2-year diploma program at Algonquin college. I had so far only positive experience there. It is a very well-equipped, student-oriented, innovative college. The staff is always nice and helpful. The professors are great and have the latest knowledge about their subject. The college layout may be confusing at first, because all the buildings are connected through passages and tunnels, but it all makes sense and you can find directions on the walls and at 'here-to-help' stands. Lots of cafeterias, computer labs, silent rooms, one big library, gym, student lounge, bookstore...If you are in a mobile program the college provides you with a free microsoft 2010 program and free wireless access to internet anywhere on campus. Overall, I am really impressed with how technologically advanced the college is and all the facilities available for students. Universities have their advantages, but this college really can give you all the hands-on skills you need in the workplace.

Thank you Orange_girl, its so nice of you to reply..
I haven't heard anybody talking about this college, Algonquin is not on many people's list so i was certainly worried about selecting this college. But a review straight away from student studying at Algonquin means a lot..

How are the job options around college?does this college give placement or at least try to place student?
I have one question, if we want can we do 2 differ 1 years courses like "mobile and social media management" and "project management" back to back and now i complete the 2 years study criteria and get 3 years work permit?

You are welcome.
On-campus employment is not readily available and you have to apply at each location separately (bookstore, library, cafeterias, tutoring, etc.). I found a job as a teacher assistant when I was in my second semester, however, it's only a few hours a week. I have an off-campus work permit now and I am still looking for a job. There is an employment center at the college, they provide a list of employers who are hiring at the moment but it's ultimately up to you if you can find a job. As for taking two programs to complete a 2 year requirement, I am not so sure about it. I think it's better to take a two-year program to be on the safe side. The post-graduation work permit will be issued for the same period as a program length, so I recommend that you choose a two-year program or later upgrade to a two-year program. I also recommend you choose a program with a co-op component or some work placement during your studies. It's very hard to find a job in a field of study without work experience and co-op provides that experience.

The course i want to take is only of 1 year, after i complete it, can i continue with second year of any other course. Have you come across anything like that.? actually, i can only afford to pay for one year course. Even if i take 2 year course and pay 1 year fees, so does part time job, on-off campus job(in case we get a good job) give enough earning opportunity to pay for 2nd year (3 and 4 semester).
I don't expect a sure answer but sometimes you may have come across such situations, i just want to know something from your experience.

I am sorry, I cannot answer these questions. I had no personal experience or met anybody who would do 2 one-year programs back to back. Also, I was fortunate to be eligible for domestic fees as I initially came to Canada as a worker. The international fees are way too high, unless you have enough money for your whole tuition it would be very difficult for you to pay for it here, life in Canada is very expensive and even if you find a job it's only enough to pay for rent, food, and a few other things. See if you can do one-year Master's program instead, in that case you can apply for PR right after completion of the program. I truly think it's the best option for immigration in Ontario.

Well thank you, i was thinking of masters, but i don't know if i will be able to complete it properly. So, i m choosing a course which i can complete with better grades. I have time so i will think about your suggestion, i will seek more info from consultancy like geebee etc if there is chances for me to get in masters. I also thought of entering Canada through Federal skilled worker program but i thought its better to do some education and till i complete education i will get well acquainted with the people and working system in Canada.

I want to come to Algonquin College, have you heard about there campus ministry. I m a (born again Christian) i really feel like m at home among christian followers. If God's will want me their i will be their..

Currently i m preparing for my IELTS, the minimum band for this course is 6.5.. but i really wanted to know if this course is having jan 2014 intake. This sept is not possible for me and AC website didn't mention any update on Jan intake 2014. I mailed this query to program coordinator but their is no reply. May be he himself don't know.. haha.. if you ever visit the admin department of your college can you ask them about it for me?? it will be very nice of you..

I applied in person, so I wouldn't know how long it takes to process if you apply from abroad. When I passed the English placement test at the college, I was informed that I had to pay the first semester fees for the acceptance letter to be issued. They should contact you soon, but it won't hurt if you write them an email to inquire about the status of your application.

Two-year Business accounting program is optimal if your goal is to get a three-year work permit. This is what I've recently got. No, it's not renewable after three years, if you don't find a skilled job and do it for one year within those three years, you won't qualify for Canadian Experience Class immigration path for students and will have to return to your home country, also the bookkeeping jobs were eliminated from the CEC list, so it has to be some other skilled job, e.g. accountant, auditor, etc. For used books, there is a website algonquinsa.com. However, the college switched to electronic books last year and the price of those is already included in the tuition fees. On-campus jobs are not easy to find, but I saw an advertisement on the walls that they are hiring for fall at the college bookstore. About co-op, I had a 10-week work placement in the private sector in my last semester, I wasn't offered a job because it was a very small place and they had enough employees, so I recommend to try and get your work placement in the public sector where you can possibly stay after you graduate. The college will find you work placement but you would have to attend an interview and go through the hiring process even though you will not get paid for your work. The last semester is heavily loaded and you might feel like you don't want to spend your time for the work placement which is not paid, but eventually it's the experience that you can put on your resume, is that what matters. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank You and I wish you all the success in your life. Sorry there is one more Q : What about the work opportunities after finishing the diploma where you can find it in a small business companies or large and is it easy or really hard because you are competing with the university graduates. In addition, in case if i want to continue and get the bachelor degree is the UN gonna give me 2 more years to get it or more. Also, if it possible can you send me any contact information if I want any future Q to be more easier thats if u don't mine.

Really I don't know how i can thank you for ur help :)
