hi,

I am waiting forever for Carleton to respond so I got accepted to Algonquin for the following course:
http://www.algonquincollege.com/sat/program/computer-systems-technician/

Since it's not a GRADUATE DEGREE, but a DIPLOMA, will this allow me to get PGWP? Has anyone studied there and can make certain? I really want to keep working after and there is no other option, really.

Thanks,
Sandra

What is your background?

A student could get PGWP for a 2 year Diploma. The question is if you get SP for that 2 year program.
- Ielts band 8 - writing pulled me down - 6.5 the rest around 8
- Master's in engineering - electronics and telecommunications - finished with low-ish grades (as to Carleton standards) - average 6.9 and Bachelors in same field - finished with average 7.3
- 2 years work exp in telecommunications

Considering the Algonquin program this might seem sketchy to a visa officer. Why a diploma after a masters degree? I know... :( I am only asking because Carleton didn't reply yey to my masters application
Sent them mails and nothing yet. No time to process visa for September IF they agree. And they won't reply to my emails regarding moving it for winter. So I would go ahead with Algonquin but the study permit situation is weird.

Also i am asking about pgwp in Algonquin`s case because I heard that even people who did certain programs at Carleton haven't been given one (they did bachelor's as far as I remember)

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Master's in engineering - electronics and telecommunications
No way you will get SP for 2 year diploma AFTER Masters.
So wait for the answer from Carleton.
who did certain programs at Carleton
Do not think so. Maybe they did not GRADUATE.
Carleton is on Designated learning institutions list. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-institutions-list.asp

OK thanks! So I definitely will hold off Algonquin. don't wanna ruin my chance at the visa just cause i am in a rush. I'll try and wait/ contact Carleton cause that is the master's course i really want anyway. They're just delaying it too much and not responding to my emails. Eventually I will just reapply for my files to be reviewed in time for another semester :(

Also clear this up for me (even if I won't be applying for diplomas or undergraduate-anything anymore)... PGWP is only available for people having finished something higher than Bachelor's ???? - anything like graduate diploma/ master's/ post graduate degree (i.e PHD)
I know the name says it on its own but even after gaining Bachelor's status, after 4 years, you can still say you "graduated" so the name is a bit fuzzy for me.

No. Even a college will do. Even vocational. The only difference is a length of study (8 months study=8 months PGWP, 1 year = 1 yr PGWP, 2 years= 3 yr PGWP)

Thanks so much! It's clear now. Sadly I will have to focus on other programs or insist on calling Carleton. I was afraid Algonquin might sound strange to a visa officer since I have done those type of courses already. I am really grateful for your info!
