It depends what you want to do.

1) You can apply for a new work permit under Alberta Pilot Project in occupations like estimator, welder, heavy-duty equipment mechanic, ironworker, millwright and industrial mechanic, and carpenter without having to obtain LMO - it works only for Alberta.

2) Find a new employer with LMO and apply for a work permit.

Part with LMO look just fine.

Yeah so if you want to change employers as a carpenter:

1) Go to any carpentry company and apply for a job.
2) If they accept you, take job offer letter from them.
3) With job offer letter&confirmation from AIT you can go to the border and get new WP.
4) If you don't want to go to the border then you can apply online/paper but it will take more time.

That's pretty much the way if you are working in one of the occupation (estimator, welder, heavy-duty equipment mechanic, ironworker, millwright and industrial mechanic, and carpenter).

It's the easiest way, you don't want to play with LMO - it's a very long process (3 months and up).

Hello! Can somebody hep me?
I am residing in Calgary now. I received the Work Permit 1-year under Alberta Pilot Project as a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (Off-Road) and I have the approval of the of qualification certification in Alberta. I'm without a certificate now. But I will take an exam and get the certificate before 2015.
1. Can I change my employer?
2. Can I apply for a new work permit under Alberta Pilot Project in occupations like Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (Off-Road) without having to obtain LMIA or I must find a new employer with LMIA?
