Alberta Health eligibility

I am US citizen moving to Alberta to marry Canadian citizen. Previously told that there is a 3 month waiting period after I apply right after wedding. Recently my fiance was told by Alberta Health that if I get my passport stamped when I arrive, I could get covered right away.
Is this correct? The website just says 'in some cases' you are eligible, but doesn't explain details of those cases. Anyone here know more about this? I could really use some help. I am on multiple meds and need to prepare as much as possible for my move. Thank you!

3 month waiting period applies to different provinces. Alberta gives healthcare right away partially due to it not being a huge destination for immigration. Like in the US, many things depend on what province you live in.

Would bring a 90 day supply of mediation which is what you are allowed to bring. Medication is usually not covered by provincial insurance. Your husband may have extended benefits. Also you may have to wait to get into see various physicians.

Thanks for the info! Do you think I need to get the passport stamped? I don't understand the reason for that.

You should get a visitor record at the border or get your passport stamped. It will be required when you sign up for your health card along with things like you marriage license. All info should be on the website. I'd also get your husband to call around to see if there is a GP in your area taking new patients. It may take some time to find someone. Probably good to locate someone if you will need Rxs relatively soon. Referrals to specialists can take quite a while not like in the US so best to be proactive if that is what you need.
