Hello everyone,

My wife and I are getting worried about her health care situation. She's here on a IEC Work Permit that expires at the end of this month, after which she will be here on a visitor's visa. We applied for her PR back in February. Despite reports from several members on this board that they were able to obtain Alberta Health Care on a visitor's permit, both the AHC representative on the phone, and the women at the AMA registry assured me that AHC was unobtainable on a visitor's permit. Is there something we are doing wrong? I got them to give us the one time 90 day extension, so we're good at least until the end of November.

We're a bit concerned, because she is pregnant and due in January (after the AHC would expire). Right now we're just hoping we get that "positive first decision" on the PR before then. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Have you explained and given proof that you are in the process of sponsoring your wife for PR? This may help.

I've tried. So far the only responses we've had from CIC are the letter confirming my eligibility to sponsor her, and a request for Appendix A. The people I talked to at Alberta Health seemed quite certain that without the "positive first decision" letter, we were out of luck on a visitor visa.
