Hello All
First of all thank you all for sharing your valuable comments here.
I would like to share my experience of landing and receiving PR card thru AINP H1B Stategic stream.

My background:
I am a H1b holder in the USA, i had applied for AINP in year 2009, march.
I got the nomination from AINP and then i applied to CIC myself for me and my family with police clearance and foreign police clearance. I received medical request and fees to be paid sometime in November 2010.
We did the medical for all from authorised doctor and sent it to CIC . Received request for passport in April 2011. Got our stamped passport's back in a month from buffalo, USA.

We were requested to land before november 2011 to make use of our Permenant Residentship and initiate it.

Experience on Landing:
We did our landing in Calgary International airport in July 2011 and found the place not much different from USA. But to mention, it was different both climatically and culturally.
Summer was great and longer.
Coming back to my landing experience in the airport, i was requested to fill the form to declare my goods to follow list.
I included my car and valuable one by one and supporting additional list i printed out even before.
I spent time and money to take canadian passport size photo for each family member to give at the port of entry.
The person in the airport did not know about the photos and he was reluctant to take it, i forced him to put the photos in along my application.
To mention that the person was indian and friendly. He gave me our passports back with COPR stamped and asked for address , i gave my friends address in alberta.

Post Landing:
- Applied for SIN
- Applied for Alberta Medical
- Applied for a bank account (scotia)
- Pre-paid rogers mobile SIM card( i took my unlocked phone instrument), works good but expensive.

Got back to normal in couple of weeks and heard the news from my friend in Alberta about SIN and alberta insurance card arrival for the whole family, happy me.
But the PR card took 50 some days to receive for all, we all got our PR card.

Hope it was helpful, good luck to all.

I have the same story almost, except that I landed in Edmonton and actually am staying here. I do not plan going back to the states. The only difference I have is that I am still waiting for my PR card. Just talked to them on the phone. Make sure you call them or else it would be delayed even further if someone hasn't received in more than 8 weeks.

When I called today to inquire about it (it has been 2 months and 2 weeks since I landed and gave my address), this was my 3rd call to CIC so far after lading. The last call was two weeks ago when they told me to wait another two weeks. This time the lady said, that it hasn't been issued yet and that she has now sent a message to the central PR card processing office for more information. The now have 30 days to inform me (by mail only) on the status of my PR.

Had I not called today, it could have taken who knows how many more weeks before the PR card office had acted on its own. Anyway good luck to all.

Good , congrats to you too.
Just wondering how did you decide to settle in Edmonton, Canada and not in the USA?
I have that a very tough decision and temporarily postponing my decision of settling down in Canada.
Please give some suggestions and what made you move to Edmonton permanently, that helps.

After working in the states for years and never given a solid chance to become a permanent resident, got tired of it. I have accolades, excellent job recommendation letters and even the proverbial "I'll hire in a split second should you come back to US" etc...... but the immig. system in the states is totally bankrupt. It's almost a lottery frankly speaking. You work your tail end off and nothing happens. It's one thing to work hard and even harder when times are tough but it's another thing when you are not even given a chance to settle down. At minimum the system is build to exploit you and yet give you no clear path to PR. So I said thank but no thanks.

Really can't say why I chose Edmonton vs Calgary except for it has a good university (Univ. of Alberta) which I wanted to go back to for 2nd MS or possibly a PhD.

It's so so. I would say the IT market in the US is actually hot right now. Here in Edmonton it definitely isn't that good. Someone here told me it's a little better in Calgary but no more better than the US. I am still getting emails from US for contracts. Other negatives in Canada are: higher taxes and lower Canadian dollar. But ultimately it depends on your own situation. My situation was unique in that I needed a PR card sooner than later.

Hi,
when did you do your landing in canada? how many days you stayed in canada? did you come back to the u.s with AVR? how did you get your PR cards? was it sent to your u.s addrees or it was sent to canada address and have it forwarded to your U.s address? can you share/? thank you very much
