We have to wait until the 15th of June until we satisfy the one year of working in the US requirement. Will the changes in the list eliminate 2171 and 2174 or have them, does Albertagovernor have any clue?

Or are they updating it to reflect on the jobtitles of the H1b's given out?

Please be rest assured that this news is not April Fool's joke. Today the Alberta immigration department announced that on April 15, 2009the on-demand occupation list of Alberta will be changed. Any applicationspostmarked before April 15, 2009 will be assessed based on the current list.All applications postmarked on or after April 15, 2009 will be assessedbased on the revised list that will be posted on April 15, 2009. After you contacted us on 3/9/2009 we have already informed you by emailthat this program may be a short term program and it may end very soon. The possible change It is very possible that IT related occupations will be removed from theon-demand list on April 15, 2009. The original intent of this Albertaprogram was to recruit H-1B professionals from USA. The economy of Albertawas booming in recent 5 years because of the discovery of huge oil reservein the northern part of the province. Alberta needs engineers such asChemical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers, etc to work forits oil industry and its oil based economy. However, it ended up that the overwhelming majority of applicants of thisAlberta program are IT consultants, programmers and software engineers inUSA. Alberta does need some IT professionals but it for sure does not need alot of them.

SAPERP123, Could you please share your source..... I am looking at the FAQs from Alberta website and the very first question, actually #1 says that this is a long-term strategy. This is contrary to what you stated in your post "short term program"

Whether it started out as a long term strategy or not, it can be made history with one swift movement of a pen when AB doesn't need it anymore and that is the same with other immigration classes or other government programs. For those who already applied, no problems, for those who didn't, they better do it now :-/

I just did some search on the internet and the information posted by SAPERP123 is an email from "Maple International"... I just wanted to see weather we are reading official information from Alberta or not...


In any case it is advisable for those who are still thinking about it to apply right away because nobody knows what occupations are to be remove from the list!!!!

I heard the Premiers and the Immigration minister were going to meet on March end. Was there any significant announcements after that?

AINP might have got too many IT consultant applications much more than what they were expecting. Looking at what happened to the FSW NOC IT might come off the list. I expect all Engineers to stay in the list given the scope for infrastructure development in AB.

All those who completed one year partly on OPT give it a try now, might be too late after April 15th.

As ingegarcia has mentioned, nobody knows which occupations will be removed from the list. all those who qualify to apply but are delaying it should get the ball rolling now. I am curious though how the Maple International (immigration agency) can single out IT professions as the occupations which are likely to be removed. I know it is possible but i cant help but wonder....who is their source? But as always, better safe than sorry.

Since i have 10 months on H1b can I just apply and hope that by the time they review the file it will be year on H1b?

yes,if you are an IT professional, that is what you may do.
I think there is no harm. atmost they will reject and you can reapply if you qualify.

hasn't it been just a month since the NOC code 2174 was added? Also there have been a surge in 2171, but not 2174 isnt it?

No one has a clue which NOC will be added or removed from AINP, best way is to apply before April 15th !!!!!!!!1
