Hello Everyone
I have sponsored my spouse in may 2014.
Does the age difference of 4-6 years matter???
Since NDVO showing 13 months of processing time. On an average, how long is it taking to get Visa Approvals.
Like you guys have are the witnesses to the timeline yourself.

Thanks,

I highly doubt an age difference would matter as long as you can prove that you have a genuine lasting relationship. My partner is 8 years older than I am but it doesn't mean we love each other any less or our relationship is any less genuine than it would be if we have a smaller age gap.

I think the only time the gap would matter is if an older person was trying to have a relationship with a minor.

In regards to processing times, it seems to really depend on the visa office that you are submitted your application to. I applied to the Sydney, Australia one and although it says 11 months on the website, according to peoples experiences on here the average time can be shorter.

Actually I have heard more than one story for people being refused on genuinity of the relationship because they had a large age gap. My husband and I have 13 years difference and it is probably my biggest concern. I wrote a letter specifically addressing that issue, explaining why I as the younger would go for someone so much older. I am hoping there is enough evidence otherwise for them to overlook it. I'm about to have his baby, we've been married a year and had a 2 year courtship.

8 years isn't quite as bad, but depending on where the foreign spouse is from...if it's something culturally abnormal they might scrutinize a bit more.

My husband and I have a 16 year age gap (with him being the older one and me being the younger Canadian that sponsored him). We called out our age gap in our application and then explained all of the ways in which we were similar. Rightly or wrongly, I think an age gap is less of an issue when the man is the older one - and provided there's plenty of other evidence to show the relationship is genuine. I wouldn't worry given your profile.

That's disappointing to hear that age gaps are a factor. I hope it works out well for you and your husband, especially with a baby on the way.

An 8 year gap seems to be pretty average here in Australia, at least so I found with the people I've met.

I have known a case where the age difference was 20 years but they were called for interview and age difference question was never asked...they got visa...prove it with lots of documentation and at the time of interview if this issue was raised, show them that age difference was not an issue....

I wouldn't worry too much about an age difference. As stated above, if you can prove that your relationship is genuine, you shouldn't have much of a problem. My wife and I have a 7.5 age difference, with the wife being the older spouse.

Like everyone here said, if the rest of your relationship background is solid, age difference won't be a big deal. Another factor is the country of origin. Some countries don't care about age difference, like USA, UK, Australia. But other countries will find it unusual even with a 3 year age difference, and the VOs will take the country's culture and norms into account.

We have a 13 year age gap and were approved. I never thought about it that it might be a problem as long as it's not like 20, 30 or 40 years

Me and hubby have 32 years age gap.

Applied in 2010 and we were interviewed Sept. 2013... Got approved and now getting closer to the finalization of the PR process .

Yup it took so long but it's worth it :)

Thanks,
Check NDVO threads, although you might like to be fair for everyone - since, its India - they look at lot of things in a traditional manner whereas age gaps are pretty common in western world and no so common back there
