Totally depends on multiple factors, including your cultures/country of origin, your other evidence, etc. The age alone likely isn't enough to trigger an interview, but together with other "red flags" it might. Every case is different.

To add to Aquakitty's opinion, if it is the male who is older it is not as big a deal as if it is the woman who is older in most cultures.

I wouldn't think anymore so than straight couple with the man being older.

In many cultures it is abnormal for an older woman to marry a younger man which is why I said that.

This is certainly true and I was considering mentioning that, but I've read several appeals where the male being older is mentioned as a red flag in the same way.

@erwinjohn, cultural norms aside, I think it's a compatibility issue, like "what does this older person find in common with the younger person". It really depends on the compatibility of the individuals, not just on their sex. If you are at similar stages in life, or are compatible in another way, this matters more than the ages.

I think this is a very good point. Besides the age difference, gaps in education or "stages in life" can be a red flag. My husband is 10 years older than me and I'm fairly young (even though that's not a taboo thing in the U.S.), but we have the same education level and both generally work in retail.

12 years isn't a huge gap, so if you're both in the same stages in your life and it's not extremely against cultural norms, I wouldn't worry too much.

It may be a red flag but that doesn't mean it will lead to an interview. Make sure the proof of relationship documentation is convincing. I'm from US, had no interview, and a very fast processing time, same-sex couple with 18 year age difference.

Best wishes!

The burden of proof for someone from the U.S. is probably lower than any other country and is certainly much much lower than someone from the Philippines. Depending on if there is adequate proof of relationship, it can take a lot less to trigger an interview for a person from the Philippines. Interviews for Americans almost never happen and are usually because of criminality, not because of doubts about the relationship, but you're right that if they have enough of proof of relationship anyways and don't have any major red flags then there's a small chance there will be an interview just over an age difference.

While I agree that burden is obviously much less for Americans, Manilla is also an easy VO.
