Against company policy to write an employee reference letter?

I asked a past employer for an employee reference letter and he responded by saying that it was against company policy to write one and said that they can only direct future employers to an employment verification phone number that directs them to a website.

What do I submit on my application? Would I include a paper trail of the emails and include the web address?

CIC accepts offer letter + pay stubs (t4) to Substitute.

Though i would have rarely written any harsh words towards an employer (or for that matter any body), i would say that this kind of response would certainly get this company - to trash.

I am not very sure though but there might be a technical ground to sue them for this, either using the country's law they are operating in, or merely on the grounds that they cannot build rules in the air and call them "company policies".

and Yes attaching a paper trial of emails should be helpful to yourself.

P.S. Do mention the company name here, so i can know and tell others to stay away from such places.

Thank you for the quick response.

I'm waiting on the Canadian company to email me my offer letter and I have already included my pay stubs from my previous employers (3 pay stubs per company).

The company is Regal Entertainment Group.

Oh i see. So if i understood correctly, company saying "its against policy to issue reference letter" is not Canadian. Sighs...

Though i have heard Canadian employers doing that too (when needed for PR application for CEC) and which is why i referred to CIC accepting Job offer + Pay stubs / t4 as proof of one year completion of Canadian experience.

If you were talking about FSW and having difficulty with that for experience letters, I doubt there is another way to convince CIC. At least it is not easy and i dont know of any written policy.

Yeah. My previous employers are American companies. Regal said that "it's against policy to issue reference letter", while my other employer than I am reaching out to for a reference letter has said ok.

The company hiring me is Canadian and they are giving me my paperwork to attach to my application so I can work for them this summer. I have already included my pay stubs from Regal and my other employer.
