After landing to open up a bank account?

Can I ask which bank this was with and how you contacted them. I have just had the run around with HSBC that claimed to offer the service for £100 charge but there were a number of hidden conditions,

In the case of ICICI bank in India, there is an option to open an account even before you land into the country.
See 'Hello Canada Account' google ICICI Hello Account to reach cicibank.ca/faqs/hellocanada.htm
Although there is a step to personally visit the branch and activate it after landing... you can do several things even before you land.
