After getting the visa - what next?

So we received PPR, and my wife is with me here in Canada visiting. We're going to submit her passport to Ottawa and I wanted to ask, once we get it back with the visa and COPR, what happens next? Can we flagpole at the US border? And is there a timeline for that? Would my wife need a visa to enter the US to flagpole? She's from a non-visa exempt country in case that matters.
