Hello friends,

I received the letter for confirmation of permanent residence for my wife and since she was already with me here in Ottawa for a visit, I took her to the local immigration office and completed the paper work instead of going to a port of entry. However, the issue is that they told her at the office you can apply for social insurance number within 24 hours once your name is in the system, but it has been a week and every time we go to service Canada they say there is no info in the system yet :( so yesterday I called immigration Canada to see if everything went well and they told me even without asking for her info that if the person used the local office as their port of entry then they have to wait for the actual PR card before they apply for a SIN... IS THAT INFORMATION TRUE? Does this make sense? Thanks for the help

BTW some of you asked if it was possible to go to local office in Ottawa and use it as port of entry and the answer is YES as you can see happened with me and they accept people every other Tuesday

Congratulations! It is unfortunates that you're having this kind of experience. Please be aware that CIC just changed the computer systems/softwares that processes all the new landing immigrants information.
It happens to my wife last November after she landed at CIC Etobicoke in Toronto. Its takes like 2 weeks before your wife information to be circulated through all government systems. After some times (2 or 3 weeks) you may be able to apply for SIN numbers and OHIP.
Likewise, your PR Card will take between 1 to 3 months before arrival.

Thanks,

POLICAP

Oh okay well I am glad its an issue with the system and not our problem. Thank you very much for the reply POLICAP
