Hello there

I need your advice on applying through CEC.(Canadian economic class). i was an International student and received my Work Permit on 31 Dec, 2013. I have a job in occupation NOC 2232 from 16 DEC 2013 and will be completing one year experience on 31 DEC, 2014 (if experience is counted from date i receive Work permit).

I want to know that should i Apply for PR on last date of this year (also the last day for current CEC application process) or should apply with new system being launched in Jan 2015 called express entry. I am afraid to apply through this system. Also i went out of country for a month in February.

Thanks in advance for your advice

If you left for a month then I imagine you no choice but to apply in 2015.

I wouldn't worry too much about Express Entry.

Were you on unpaid vacation for that one month of February? If so, then you wouldn't be completing the required one year work experience until the end of January 2015. Else, you should be good to apply under cec by end of Dec 31st 2014. But it is advisable that you have one or two extra weeks of experience over the one year that you would attain, just to be guaranteed that you cover a minimum of one year exp.

The requirements for Express Entry are not clear yet. But it sounds like this new system is advantageous to people who already have a job in hand and are preferred by potential employers.

I suggest people not waste time with extra 1/2 weeks. A year is a year (make sure it's 52 weeks though, just in case). Waiting an extra day is highly recommended.

You have no choice. CIC, most likely, will have received all 8000 CEC applications before December.

Thanks for your advice everyone.
Should i be ready with my application till end of this year. And if cap isnt reached, currently around 1750/8000. I will apply in last week of this year... Is there anything to loose; except some money and time.

My vacation was unpaid but i recieve 4% vacation pay on my pay cheques. And do CIC count experience from day i recieve my letter or the day i recieve my post graduate WP.

I think there is nothing much to worry about express entry.. But they say its based on ranking among other applicant.

It's not actually 1750. It's been 1750 in their website for a very long time now, which means the current number must be much higher.

Sadly, vacation pay won't do. Your vacation doesn't count.

Experience starts the day you ceased to be officially a full time student, but make sure you worked legally with either OCWP or PGWP.

Don't take what they say seriously. No one can tell you much about Express Entry before Jan 2015.

Thank you very much Zareef.. If that one month of vaction is not being counted,I think i am left with only one choice; express entry .. So am Undoubted 8)...thanks

if that application received by CIC by dec 15th 2014 and didn't get AOR then am I fine and will be processed under cec of old rules?

^ In general - a CEC application is processed according to the rules that were in effect when it was received (i.e. when it arrived at CIO).

So if your application is received before the rules change to require Express Entry (which we assume will happen on January 1) then it should be processed according to the current rules.

under cec, do u have to work continuously for 1 year.....or if someone has worked for 4 months and then there is a gap of 5 months(got laid off and getting money from EI) and again started working?/

No the experience does not have to be continuous. Just needs to be a year within the last three years from the date of application.

One more Important thing to keep in mind is that
"CEC" Offices across Canada will be closed from around 20th Dec 2014 till the 1st week of Jan 2015 (for 2 weeks - for Christmas Holidays).

Be-aware.!!

All the best guys..

Who told you?
Do you have URL or some of your relative who work in CIC told you that CIC is closed officially from your said time ?

you can say that is festival time so many VO's will be off (that we all aware)

For your reference :
1) http://www.officeholidays.com/countries/canada/
2) http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/hldys/menu-eng.html (I am aware this is from CRA site but they are also govt dept like CIC, now tomorrow you will say CRA is closed for 2 weeks )

Hi CEC_1304,

You are right. CEC is officially not closed.
But last year December (2012)when was applying for my work permit, It took hell more time than what it was supposed to take.
When i called CIC , they told me almost everyone is on vacation.
If everyone's aware then Its cool!!!
