I am still confused between an affidavit and letter of sponsorship. I need to show that my father is supporting me financially. Now what would be required for it? Affidavit or just a letter from my dad - or both?

You need to get a Letter of Sponsorship from your dad stating that he will cover all your expenses or he is giving your funds for your studies, etc...
So now, we are calling AFFIDAVIT of SUPPORT to this Letter of Sponsorship document. It should be on stamped paper of worth 100Rs I guess.

So, write the sponsorship statements on some word file, print this text on a stamped paper and get it signed from your dad. You are done.
For Example:

AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT

I, <your father's name> S/O <your father's father name> resident of <your father's home address>, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:

1....................
2....................
3...................., etc.

DEPONENT

<your father's sign>

<your father's name>
CNIC: <your father's NIC>

Hi Usman,

what if the person is not available in Pakistan. I want to mention that my brother is supporting me as well for my studies and he is currently living in Saudi Arabia. How do I mention his support for finances? Affidavit wont be possible in this case as it needs to be signed by my brother.

You need an Affidavit from him as well.
Ammm... You can write your text in a word file with proper formatting because Stamped Paper has a huge header so you need to leave that much space in word file header, etc.... So write a word document. Send it to you brother, ask your brother to print it, sign it and send you its scanned copy and then you can print this scanned image on Stamped Paper. I guess this will work ;)

Doesn't seem to be a good idea. I think signature should be hand-written. :-[

Signature will be hand written!
He is sending you a (hand signed) scanned document. It sounds normal.

Tipsy: Do you know of any way through which I can make the letter look like an official one - excluding the option of affidavit?

Usman: I guess you're correct but that would be my last resort.

I have seen many sample letters such as

To whom it may concern:

This letter is to verify that I, Jane Smith, am willing and capable of financially supporting my son Gunther Smith during the time he will be studying at Brandeis University. I have provided personal bank statements which prove that I can support Gunther for a minimum of $62,709* U.S. per academic year.

If you have any questions or concerns about this matter, please feel free to contact me at janesmith@email.com.

Best Regards,

I guess this one is supposed to be printed on normal A4 size paper. But question is how to make it look like an official one?

This letter is to verify that I, Jane Smith, bearing Passport Number 000000000000 and CNIC Number 0000000000 am willing and capable of financially supporting my son Gunther Smith during the time he will be studying at Brandeis University. I have provided personal bank statements for my bank account, having account number 000000000000000, which prove that I can support Gunther for a minimum of $62,709* U.S. per academic year.

Nortarized it, Attach the Notarized copy of the Passport and CNIC of your Sponsor.
That it. It will make it official.

And if you really think that the scanned copy of the Sponsor's signature isn't enough, then e-mail the letter to your Sponsor, ask him to sign it and then Courier it to you using DHL.
it will take only two days to reach you.

Look at this too,

I have received the University offer letter. My mother will be supporting me financially for my studies. My question is should the letter of sponsorship (Letter of Affidavit) necessary be signed by a lawyer or sworn upon a lawyer?

Instead of a lawyer signing it, Can I prove my financial states attaching all the necessary documents as proof and getting it signed by my Mother?
