Hi all,

my sister wrote an affidavit letter, but it is not in English/French. Do I need to get a certified translation of her letter, or can I translate it myself and send together with the original version?

Thanks in advance.

An affidavit is a 'sworn' document. It requires a Commissioner of Oaths to sign it as well. That means you probably have to have it translated and certified.

If you are applying common-law, and this is one of the required letters, then get it translated professionally with an affidavit. If it is just extra proof for a married couple, then you could get by with a non-certified translator, but CIC does not want things translated by the sponsor or applicant, or by their families.
