I've just received confirmation of my Open Work Permit which I applied for when I was with my spouse in Canada from May to end September this year (he is the sponsor, I am the principal applicant). My original length of stay was meant to be until mid-November but I had to come back early for personal things to deal with back home so brought my flight forward.

I was just reading up about this and read somewhere that you "must" stay in Canada for the duration of your temporary visitor status and receiving approval for the open work permit, which obviously I haven't done. Would this mean I've basically screwed up? Can anyone advise? And also how would this affect my spousal sponsorship, which so far has been going smoothly.

Edit: Never mind, I think must have misunderstood.. just found this:
"a spouse or common-law partner of a temporary Canadian permit holder does not have to stay in Canada while waiting for a Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) if they are from a visa-free country or have the appropriate Canadian visa. However, the Canadian spouse or partner must remain in Canada while the application is being processed"

So basically my Canadian spouse must remain in his country, which he is obviously doing!
