Hello, i would like some tips or advice on sponsoring my half brother. He is 12 years old and lives in Lebanon, we both share the same father and same last name. Time are getting hard in lebanon and would like to bring him to Canada before it gets worse there, my father is allowing me to bring him over here. Do i need to adopt my brother or just take custody of him from my father? Any advice willhelp. THANKS!

There's no provisions to sponsor your brother right now for PR. He would have to be orphaned (both parents deceased). If you adopt him just to bring him to Canada while his parents are alive, CIC will see it's an adoption just to get PR and deny.

Once he's 18 and ready to enter university and/or work, you may have some other options available. Right now, there is nothing.

No, that makes no difference.

If you can qualify for parental sponsorship when it reopens in 2014, you can sponsor your father. Your brother can be a dependant on his application. Currently parent sponsorship takes years (and years). No idea how the "new" program will be - but it might be worth looking into.

You could also look at some of the provincial programs. Some provinces allow to sponsor close family. Depending on where you are based currently, have a look at the provincial options, maybe you will find something there.
Good luck,

SNIP requires the applicant in their family class to have work experience, somehow I don't think a 12 year old will have.
