Advice on getting my girlfriend caregiver job

Hey folks,

I'm trying to help my girlfriend get a sponsored job as a Live-In Caregiver, or come to Canada on a Temporary Foreign Worker visa, but I'm having some trouble, so I wanted to ask you guy's advice.

So she is an Armenian citizen, and is totally qualified for the live-in caregiver program. She has completed high school, has a university diploma (in the management field) and has more than three years full-time work experience in charge of a Kindergarten.

So she fullfills the requirements for the program, but having helped her apply for about 35-40 positions on Craigslist she's had absolutely no luck. It's getting quite frustrating really

I was reading that the caregiver scheme now means that families have to pay for the employees flight from their home country to Canada. Her resume, and cover letter, photos etc are excellent, but she's had not one interview. Seems though people all want to employ a nanny who is already in Canada. Any suggestions? We don't have tons of cash to spare for an agency. Not sure what to do?

Another idea - can she get a Temporary Work Visa in another field? It's making me pretty sad about the whole situation right now

Try kijiji or jobbank.ca there's a lot of job posting for caregivers

A legitimate nanny agency won't charge her fees. All fees are paid by the Family hiring the LCP.

Post ads on Kijiji. Sometimes agencies will contact you and ask for the resume. Make sure her resume is in English or French, depending on your area (or both). Good grammar and spelling. Highlight foreign languages she can speak, read, write, and understand.

Register with Canadian Nanny (www.canadiannanny.com) and Nanny Services (www.nannyservices.ca).

She can also search for nanny agencies in your area directly. Just remember, no fees. Placement fees are the responsibility of the family. The agency may charge a small fee for help filling the work permit. She can tell them she doesn't need the help and can do it herself, although some agencies will quit helping you if you do that.

Thank you for the advice. Her resume/cover letter are all in perfect English - we'll look into the agency thing then. Hopefully can get something sorted out.

It's no problem posting your own ad on Kijiji then? We did one for Craigslist and it was deleted pretty swiftly.

I guess there aren't really any other employment options for her aside from the caregiver scheme in her case?
