Hi all,

My husband and I are about ready to submit our application for in land sponsorship with OWP. However I’m in a dilemma..my passport is about to expire in 7 months & my visitor extension ends in April.

I’m unsure what’ll happen if I submit another extension and OWP on an old passport while I’m in the process of passport renewal (going to Ottawa to renew next week)

Could I send in the new passport pages for both extension and sponsorship after I have received the new passport? Would the visitor record on old passport still be valid? Should I request for a shorter length of stay on extension and send in another extension again with the new passport?

Hi based on my experience you can submit your inland spousal sponsorship application now together with your open work permit and old passport after renew your passport no problem, just make sure you have a valid passport on your landing interview appointment. Then your open work permit it will take 3-4 months to process and approved and there are some approved in 3 months so I think you don’t need to extend your visitor visa but it’s up to you or you can call IRCC for confirmation.
