Advice for international student couple

Hi everybody!
I'm Stefania and my partner (we live togheter) and I are determined to enroll in a graduate program in Canada, maybe Vancouver.
I'd like to start a PhD in Medical Genetics, my partner must have his degree evaluated by the NCA.
We don't know if is better make separate application for student permit (does he need it or a work permit or something else?) or if I sponsor him as my common-law.

If he also wants to study then he needs to apply for study permit separately. If he just want to accompany you, then he can apply for SOWP on the basis of your study permit
