Dear All.

I want to apply for masters in civil engineering in canada but the problem is my low GPA in B.E(54%),i have 2 yrs experience in civil engg.

Plz let me know which universities may accept my application.i will go for any university which gives me admission in Msc/Meng(civil engg.

Someone advised me to go for PG diploma in colleges,i searched but there are very few PG certificatea in colleges.most of them are advanced diploma which doesnt seem to be a PG course.

I achieved IELTS band 7 two yrs ago,but i will try to take another ielts.

I don't know such University in Canada that would accept a 54 %... They usually ask for at least 70% or more than 75%....

Good luck finding one... If any

Forget about taking a Master's in Canada. Your marks are far too low.

You need not loose hope it depends on the country you are coming from. Each university has its own grade conversion, assuming you are an international student you can refer university websites for their grade conversions.

Regarding your chances of acceptance i would say MEng you will have some chances. If budget is not a constraint you can look at Dalhousie university, Ryerson University, Carleton University. They are a little lenient with their evaluation but, prepare yourself for huge fees.

The most important thing in your admission will be your SOP. Since you have work experience, write a good SOP relate your work exp to your masters. You will have to give a genuine reason for your low GPAs and convince the readers that you will perform well. This will increase your chances.

If you are desperate to get into canada(for a PR) and you don't care about the university you will study you can look at universities in Price Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia better known as Atlantic Canada.

I am a mechanical engineer my GPA is a little low 59%, i have applied for UoSask, UoRegina, University of New brunswick.

The best advice i would give you is, civil engineering, geo informatics, has good job prospects and to be successful in the job market you have to get a engineers license applicable to mechanical, civil, electrical engineers.

You will get this license on graduating with a masters from any university. Each province has its own license, if you are gonna change your city you will have to obtain the provincial license.

Low GPA will not be a major issue, it all depends on how well you SELL yourself to the admission committee and convince them. Get a higher IELTS score, considering you got 7 earlier, you must touch least 7.5 you will have a decently strong profile.

you can msg me any time for any queries you have.

hope this gave you the confidence! ;D

Thanks kartz, , your words really boosted my confidence.
I wouldn't worry much about the fees as getting into masters is more important. .if I couldn't make it to master's, what would be my chances for pg diploma or certificate.

I did my BE from Osmania University hyd.if I couldn't make it to master's, what would be my chances for pg diploma or certificate.
A PG diploma frankly requires no qualification. You will get an admission with any GPA. Just the IELTS have to be above 7. I suggest you apply for 6 universities, out of which 2 can be a dream university, 2 a decently reachable and 2 in the standards of university of carleton, Ryerson etc.

Pick 2 from Alberta/BC, 2 from Saskatchewan/Manitoba, 2 from Atlantic Canada including Ontario.

A good SOP and LOR can give you value additions. You must highlight your work exp.

All the best!

No matter what.. You can prepare the best SOP for any University... If you don't meet the minimum GPA required for their admission you won't get in for a Masters... Maybe a Pg diploma could be your best bet... But I am really not familiar with those requirements...

Sir, i'm a mechanical engineer graduate of 2016.
Did some internships while studying and now i'm working full time at a cable factory as a Production Engineer.

I also have a low gpa score i.e. about 58-59%.

And i don't have that much work experience.

So, which visa would be better for me to enter Canada, work or study

If study, can i get admission in a decent university ? . If not, which universities has low eligibility criteria ?

Do help.

Hi
I am a political science student graduate. I have 49.5% in UG and I am aiming to get 8 bands. I also have scored 102 in TOEFL. What are my chances to a pg diploma/certificate program at any college?

Where did you get admission? I mean what are the chances of a person having 71.2% in undergrads and wants to take admission in MS Computer science?
