Hello everyone

I have applied UBC, UofOttawa for M.Eng in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I also plan on applying for M.Eng(Coursework) in ECE, McGill in this August, as soon as I complete GRE. How good are my chances of getting admitted for Winter 2015 intake in aforementioned universities

CGPA - 3.86/4.2 - B.Sc.Eng(First Class Honors) in Electronic & Telecom. Engineering (3.81/4 when converted to 4 scale)
IELTS - 8 (R-9, L-8 , W-7.5,S-7.5 )
GRE - Doing this August
Work Experience - Industrial internship of 6 month duration at a networking firm
Currently a research engineer at a mobile communications research lab( approximately 6 months)

Thank you

Hi manJay,

I can only speak about McGill. I got admitted in the thesis option for M.Eng Electrical Engineering. My stats:
CGPA - 3.4/4.0 (I did my own conversions so I'm not quite sure if this is right)
TOEFL - 111
GRE - V (152); Q (154); A (3.5)
Work experience - Product development engineer for five years in a semiconductor test facility and three industry papers

I think the thing that helped my application the most is contacting a thesis supervisor. I sent a short email about my intentions for applying, my stats, and my recent work. After multiple email exchanges and one Skype interview, I was in.

I know that contacting a supervisor isn't mandatory (for thesis or non-thesis option) but I think having someone in the department peek into your credentials will definitely give you an edge. If you can manage to impress someone with your profile, you can earn a recommendation. A recommendation from a supervisor during intradepartmental deliberations almost always leads to an offer of admission. Good luck! :)
