address in toronto + rent contract

Hi,

I am a new PR and will be flying to toronto in 2 days.

as I dont know no one in canada ( yet ) , I took an address with UPS ( it’s a real street address not a PObox) that am planning to use as my address for legal documents (PR, SIN, OHIP). I thought this way I can move around looking for the best area and neighbourhood while always having the same address.

But my questions are:

- is my decision of using this UPS address is a GOOD decision (as the address is a real street address not a POBOX)?

- will this address is enough for the Health card (OHIP) or do I really really need to have a rent contract to apply?

what do you think ?

You should have a proper address and contact telephone number for applying for a health card. They will ask for an address proof when you apply for it. Usually your bank statement will be considered as a proof of address. It can be an address where you stay - friend, relative or rented apartment etc. However there is no hurry for it as you will be eligible for health care only after 3 months from landing.

my plan is to stay in some hotel and give the address and phone number of that hotel

else if you have any friend or relative you can give their adress.. thats teh best way out i would say

you have to check the nearest UPS store and then ask them for the mailbox service with real street address.
