Hello guys I am new to this forum hopefully someone can help me.

My application was received on 28th June at CIO. Before submitting my application I had 13 months of skilled work experience. 3 months with employer one and 10 months with employer two.

Now I received an email regarding additional information for my employer 1. Basically CIC is asking for paystubs and t4, but I only have a t5018, which is issued for self-employment.

So according to CEC requirements now I only have 10 months of skilled work experience. I know I did a stupid mistake and should have known better but I was new in Canada (working holiday visa). and didn’t had any clue about the difference between employee and self-employment.

Anyways I am working fulltime since I submitted my application and have now in total 18 months of skilled work experience under NOC A.

My question is how good are my chances if I submit additional information for work experience gained after submitting the application? I am planning to submit updated t4 and paystubs and also a new employment letter with updated work period.

Do you see any chances that CIC officer will accept the additional work experience?

Any answer is much appreciated

In my opinion, you needed 12 months full time employment or more AT THE TIME you applied. It is a question of fairness. I doubt you will get it through but it is worth a try anyways. Maybe you are lucky. :)

I would also second the requirement clearly. CIC specifically mentions on website that they require 1 year of full time experience BEFORE or AT THE TIME of APPLICATION.

Whether they entertain your case or not is entirely up to them.

However, if this is a genuine situation where i only "get to know well after applying" that being self employed is not counted, and if i were in your shoes, i would write an explanation letter explaining my wrong assumption and requesting to consider it with my NEW experience and SUBMIT THE NEW ONE ASAP. Since you were pretty close 10 months mean two more months should qualify, they may take pity on you.

Thank you for your answer Alberto and fkl.

So it looks like my chances are not very high.

Would you guys recommend me to pull back my application and reapply, since i didn't have the necessary 12 months? I don't wanna waist any time if the outcome is negative.

Or should I try my luck and submit all information along with an explanation letter regarding my self employment period?

No Problem, i don't really know if you are in a position to take it back. If you can (which means they refund your fee), may be it is a good idea.

However, before doing so please ensure that caps for CEC for your NOC are not full or any thing.

If you can afford to bear the fee loss (i don't know if you applied alone or with family, in which case it might be a bigger sum in question), probably you should take a chance on their understanding.

But whether you wish to withdraw (if they allow it) or submit additional info, do it fast. It is also possible that they already put your file in rejection pile by the time you submit this additional info. So try taking either of the actions right away.

If you are in Canada, calling CIC helpline should be useful too.

You mentioned that you had 3 months of employment with another employer before you applied for your CEC. Was this self employment? If that's the case then self employment is not counted towards CEC. I'd suggest you submit additional documents to support your case because at this point processing fees will not be refunded. So there is no harm in submitting additional information and wait to see if they will make a difference.

Just worth a shot because you are not going to get back your fees anyway ....

Good luck!
