You provide your fingerprints to the RCMP and they do the check.

Did you include a notarized statement from your mother confirming that you had full use and access to the funds? Even with such a letter, apps with joint accounts with people other than spouses have been refused. It is far better to have the funds in your own name only.
No, i don't have a notarized statement. Maybe my parents can transfer me money to my canadian bank and then declare it as a deed of gift? Would that be a better option?

Yes, i believe it must be a check. What probably happened was that your name matched someone in the criminal database. So they now want to make sure by having a finger print check run by RCMP to rule you out as that individual. So RCMP will take your fingerprints and send it to their HQ to check against any existing ones. You will get the report in your mailbox. I got the report back in a week (back in May 2019)
Thanks for the information. How long it took you to get your PR after that?

That was a mistake. You can't include joint funds without the express permission of the other account holder to use the funds. I don't know if they would accept a gift deed at this point or not.

The FD was in my name only, that's why i didn't get a notarized statement. Although the account is joint. Why do you think they won't accept gift deed at this moment?

They might not believe that it is a genuine gift at this point.

Okay, i will tell you all the documents that i provided. I was working in USA and when i went back home i transfered money to the Indian bank and made FD out of that money. I did attach all the documents showing transfer of money from my USA bank account to India bank account and then attach the FD in my name only. Now, CIC is saying that FD is not readily available funds. Although the FD has matured now. What is the best thing i can do at this point so that my file doesn't get rejected?

All I can advise is to show sufficient proof of funds that are completely liquid and accessible to you.

My application was approved exactly one week after that (found out by calling IRCC). I got my interview at hamilton office of IRCC 3 weeks after I submitted my RCMP report.

I do have the exact amount in liquid form as required by the CIC guidelines but do they expect higher amount in the bank account or that doesn't matter?

Another thing i want to ask is that i can't see an option to upload the file for proof of funds in my online account. What could be the reason for that?

It doesn't need to be a higher amount but if not in CAD, then it definitely should be to account for currency rate changes.

I don't know.

I just want to make sure one thing. Would it be okay if i use a separate bank to show the funds and that bank wasn't shown when i submit my profile? All the funds are in my name in this bank.

As long as you have the supporting documentation going back to show it's yours, it should be fine.

The joint account i have with my mother, the spelling of her name is slightly different than the one i filled in the family details as per her passport. There's an 'a' extra in the bank account name. Will that be a problem?
