Hell everyone,

I am filling out the IMM 5406 form which is the Additional Family Information form for the applicant in the sponsorship application under common-law.

The form asks whether I have a spouse or common-law partner but I want to make sure: this form is only for additional people that I would bring to Canada from my country, right? So I do not have to include here my Canadian common-law partner who is going to sponsor me, right?

Thank you very much for advice.

Hi dzuls,

The IMM 5406 form required the details of every family member of the applicant, including parents, children, siblings and half brothers/sisters AND your common-law partner.

I don't know why the common-law partner (sponsor) needs to be included on there, but I included mine on there, just in case (I also applied as common-law). I do know that all family members need to be included on the form in the event that you wish to sponsor any of them once you are a PR or citizen down the track. If they are not included on this form now, then they will not be able to be sponsored at all in the future.

I made the mistake of thinking it also was only for family members that were accompanying me to Canada also, but this is not the case. I had to resubmit mine as apparently if it is filled out incorrectly it can be classified as misrepresentation.

Hopefully this makes sense!

This is the one form where you must include EVERYONE whether they are accompanying or not... whether they're your sponsor or not... whether they're Canadian or not. Your only other option would be to sign on the line which says "I confirm that I do not have a spouse" which is obviously not the case.

Include your wife, your parents, any children, any siblings (including half siblings). Include them all!

Most definitely not. In the other forms, 'family members' means your spouse/partner and children; this forms means everyone. So include your spouse/partner, parents, children, siblings including half-siblings and step-siblings. Even if they are not ever going to come to Canada. Even if they are already Canadian citizens or PRs.

You have to include your partner.
