Hi,

I've recently received a request for additional document on my Express Entry application.

They've asked for my "nikaah nama with certified translation". I had already submitted the Marriage Registration Certificate along with my initial application. But now they're asking for the original nikkah nama (i.e. marriage licence) along with translation.

Can someone please help me as to what "certified translation" means?

Is it the same as a true translation notarized/ attested from the notary public? Or does certified mean something else?

I'm extremely confused and they've not given me a lot of days to turn this in, so if anyone can help me, I'll be extremely grateful. Thanks.

I received an email for Nikkahnama and translation and asked the same question. @bootsal shared with me:

Please follow this for translations

What language should my supporting documents be in?
Unless we tell you otherwise, all supporting documents must be in English or French.

If it is not in English or French, you must send it with:

  • the English or French translation and
  • an affidavit from the person who completed the translation and
  • a certified photocopy of the original document

Thanks for replying.

So, have you already got the translation done for your nikaah nama and submitted it?

I've had it translated to English from Urdu, and got it notarized/ attested (it also has an affidavit). I just want to be sure, if that's what they're asking.

I think what they are asking is just a certified translated copy of the your nikah nama where u and your bride signed and dowry and other stipulations were made.

Just want to know in your document checklist did u have two things to upload I.e proof of relationship and
marriage certificate or they only asked for marriage certificate??

See, I know they're asking for certified translated copy. But my question is what does certified here mean? Certified by whom?

Is there any authorized center/ office (in Karachi) who'd make a certified translation for me, or is it the same thing that you get from a public notary service?

I have gotten the nikkah nama translated by a notary office and gotten it attested as well. But I want to know if it is the same thing that they need exactly?

And, I had initially uploaded the MRC only, because the document checklist asked for "marriage license/ certificate".

Translation with notary public signatures should do I think. That's what I plan to do.

When do you plan to submit?

I asked my friend from Karachi and he underwent the similar situation. Cic asked for the certified translated nikahnama, so he went to civic center in Karachi and asked for the certified translator. That’s how his got done. He said the document has to be on the letter head of translator and it was not on a stamp paper
