Hi guys,
I got my provincial nominee in June 2017. In Sept. 2017 me and my bf moved in together, in the same month, I mailed out my PR application to CIC, then I got my federal file number in Oct.. My bf is still a university student. After all these years that I gave so much for my PR, I wanted to help him and make his life easier. So I’ve been thinking to include him in my PR application in Sept.2018, by then we will be living together for 12 months. I have a few questions: 1. I heard if he’s not qualified then I will also be denied together for PR. So what are the factors that could make him disqualify? Also, he’s here on a student status but he only took two courses in the fall term, and this winter term he’s not taking any classes cuz all the courses he needed to take were full, and he’s working full time this winter cuz he needs to make money for his tuition when he’s not supposed to on a study permit ( but lots of students here do this, so I think this is a grey area?). So I’m wondering if this will be one of the factors that makes him disqualified? 2. How much longer approximately will be add on to my application processing time? Like I said, my road to getting a PR isn’t an easy one, I’ve invested way too much effort and time for it. So I cannot risk the chance of being denied because of him if I include him in my application, nor do I want to wait if by doing so, the processing time will be significantly longer, as you all know, now the processing time is 18 months, too long for me already! 3. When is the deadline to update my common-law status with CIC, is it before I get my medical exam request?

I will be really looking forward to you guys’ insights!! Thank you!!!

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1 - No grey area, he is working illegally. Other factors that would disqualify him are medical inadmissibility and issues with the background/security checks.
2 - Usually it takes 3 to 4 months to add him to your application.
3 - You can add your common law at any time as long as you do not finish the landing procedure.

Thank you very much DelPiero07. Would you say him not taking full time classes and working at the same time could be a factor? Because, now I tried to remember the forms I needed to fill out for my PR app, there’s no question regarding whether you are taking part time or full time classes during a certain period when on a study permit, or request for income or tax proof when you are a student, so if he doesn’t say, it’s just a matter of odds whether the CIC officer will find out or not right? The reason that he didn’t take full time classes last term and no classes at all this term was because all the courses he needed to take to graduate we’re taken. In the summer, he will restart taking full time courses, cuz that’s when there will be fewer students trying to register. And 3-4 months doesn’t sound too bad, as long as it’s no longer than 4. Thank you again for your reply.
