Adding a second citizenship to my PR file/status

Hello I was hoping to get some advice about my situation.
I am a PR since 2013 living here full time and I am intending to apply for my Canadian citizenship soon. I have discovered that I have a second citizenship by birth which I will surely need to inform the powers that be about. My original PR application did not ask about second citizenship by the way.

I am beginning the process of getting this second citizenship passport as well. What would be the best way about informing citizenship & immigration Canada? Should I wait until I have a valid travel document from this second country? Should I wait until I file my citizenship application?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware, there are no specific requirements or statutes that require you to disclose another citizenship. Either now, or retrospectively.

As for applying for Canadian citizenship: look at the form and answer the questions. Does it ask about other citizenships? No. Does it ask for any passports you've had during that period? Yes.

As for your PR app: I don't think this citizenship by birth could constitute misrepresentation - not unless you wilfully ignored the matter and/or hid it. And while that does likely mean that (technically) you had that other citizenship since birth (presumably by descent), if you did not know and did not have that passport, unlikely anyone could consider that you misled about 'having' this other citizenship. Your defence, should it ever (although quite inconceivable) come up, is pretty simple: "I did not know and had no reason to think it."

(Your original PR app almost certainly did ask about other citizenships or 'statuses'. And you've just forgotten. Perfectly normal. Again, if you didn't know about it, why would you have focused on the question?).
