Add Spouse name and change of surname after marriage

Hi

I am on work permit to canada and recently got married in india. I did not had sufficient time in india to change my surname and add spouse name on my passport. Kindly guide me the procedure to add spouse name and change of surname in canada. Also as my husband is in india, kindly share the list of documents that i need to prepare.

Hello,

I am assuming your query is related to the preparation of your PR application. You don't need to make any changes to your passport to apply for PR. You would need to include a marriage certificate in support of your marital status.

If you want to change your name someone else in the forum would be better able to answer that part.

The document checklist varies depending on the stream under which you would be applying but for the spouse it is usually the Schedule A, IMM 5406, copies of passport/birth certificate, marriage certificate, PCC & photos.
