Add common-law partner after ITA or decline and start fresh?

Hi Guys,

I have established with some valuable help in a previous thread that my common-law partner and I can make a single application (we both have a score above 490) where one partner is "accompanying" the other. I wish I knew this last week...

Now, I had a brain fart and I made a mistake in my profile (I said I was single because I thought that the other option was for those whose partner wants to come to Canada to unify with them...), and I got the ITA straight away. But now I'm thinking of declining because I am not single!
Modifying the profile by adding an accompanying common-law partner would lower my score from 496 to 492, which I believe is still above the cut, so I'm not sure whether I can go ahead with the change or whether I should decline and start over (perhaps my partner could start a fresh profile instead of me).
Any thoughts?

I think you can add your common law partner as long as your new score is above the minimum score in the draw you were invited in. You can also include a brief explanation in your letter of explanation. I hope this helps.

mmh... okay. I'm still afraid that it could be misrepresentation, though... Tomorrow I'll give a call the CIC to check (today their lines were so busy I wasn't even put in the telephone queue). Where can I find the cutoff scores?

Either way - your score is good enough that you would most likely receive another ITA at the next round. But since your score remains above the cutoff when you add your CLP partner, you could safely add your partner post ITA with a letter of explanation (you certainly would not be the first person to misunderstand "accompanying...").

Thank you all very much, what you say makes sense.
I will let you know how it goes down, in case someone else will be in our position.
