Hi

I am an Indian citizen with Canadian pr.

I would like to add new name to my present firstname: Surname :xxxx
First name: New-old

I came to know that name change in canada is much easier. If i change my name here and get name change certificate from my province can i apply for Indian passport with this Canadian provincial name change certificate or in order to get new Indian passport with changed name then i need to do anything from india like court order from India..
Getting from india as you know its very difficult.

Please let me know the process. Is it complicated. If i change my name here then everything in india is reflected to new name or it will keep me in problem as i dont want to break ties from india as i have many lands on my name.

I am not sure about the legal name change in saskatchewan however, what you need to do is get your legal name changed in saskatchewan and once the certificate is issued, get all your ids changed like drivers license, health card, credit cards, bank cards, sin card etc etc. Once done, apply for pr card renewal for name change.
Once your name has been changed in the PR card, visit BLS office or their website:
http://www.blsindia-canada.com/

You can then change the name on your Indian passport, a new passport will be issued. The name change in Indian passport has to be done by indian procedure like newspaper advertisements etc. Check the link I have mentioned above. The pr card's name change has to be done first in order to get your indian passport renewed with new name.

once indian passport is issued then that means my name is changed in india too(indian banking information etc) or else do i need to follow any more procedures

When you new indian passport is issued with new name, you need to take the new passport to your respective indian banks to get the name changed. You can do it electronically online or in person depending upon what options does the bank offer to change the name.

Are you sure we don't need any court order or gazette for change of name in india. Do you know anyone who changed first name

I have changed my name (added last name/surname). It does not matter you change your first name or last name/surname. I have posted the link for BLS website, it has all the details in order to process for name change. Read it carefully.

Ok thanks. Well lastname change is very common and doesnt need any court order or advertise in newspapers in india. But i think changing the first name is little bit complicated. Can you say me how long does it take total in time for changing your name and getting new indian passport.

The newspaper advertisements should be atleast 1 month old in order to apply for name change and then rest of the process may take up to another 1 month. The BLS website has all information required to apply for name change.
As I previously said that it does not really matter if you change your first name, last name, middle name, the process is the same. newspaper advertisements are still required regardless of what part of the name needs to be changed.

Read the website carefully and feel free to ask any questions you have.

I landed and got my pr card and then got name change and then got PR card and all IDs replaced with new name and then applied citizenship with my new name and had no issues. I can't say what will happen in your case because every case/application is different.

Affidavits can be made here locally by visiting a notary public.
You can either contact online the newspaper agencies in India and pay them online to get your advertisement and ask them to mail you the newspaper or have your relative grab it for you and send it to you.
Else, ask your relative in India to get ads in newspapers and then send you the newspaper ad by mail.
