Hello family,

I'm looking for similar experiences regarding the following issue:

My permanent residence application is in progress. Biometrics, Medicals, eligibility, information sharing, and criminality have all been validated. Security didn't start until May 9, 2024, when I received a ghost update. Upon calling IRCC, I learned that my security is now in progress.

I saw this update on the tracker on May 10, 2024.

By talking to people around me, I learned that this update only appears on the tracker when the application is undergoing a comprehensive security screening, which can take months, or even a year or more, to be approved.

Could someone share their experiences on this? Is this really the case? Have you got same update on the Tracker before?

Hey Medmar,
What you heard is correct and I am also in the same boat. My security check started from 8th March and there is no update so far. Once you see this message in your tracker that your application has gone to comprehensive security check. I have created a watsapp group for such people please feel free to join for further updates. I also heard the same, that this tracker update indicates the comprehensive background check. What do you see in your GC key in the background check? "We are processing..." Or "Not applicable"?

I got the same message on May 9th 2024 as well. I think we need to wait for a looooooooooooooong time. something between 6moths and a year if we're lucky otherwise more up to 3 or 4 years.

Not necessarily ! There are cases where security has been cleared in some few weeks ! Be optimistic

Did they get the same "background verification has been updated to in progress" message in tracker? I guess this means more than 6 months of screening. I'm already considering other countries there is no guarantee when it will be done. Investing time on Canada was a big mistake from my part. They don't really care about us

Since you said PPR means you are outland applicant. I did not see anyone completed security so early after getting that message in the tracker. However, I have seen two cases and they are inland applicant and since their Study visa was expiring so they got final decision in just 2 months. Well, this is the catch I saw in both profile but I could be wrong. If application is on comprehensive security check then on an average it may take 4 to 6 months and few cases up to and year or more than that. Well, I pray all if us get it pretty soon.

I do not have this line in the pr tracker, but most likely have an enchanced security check as well. Next week It will be 8 months since my aor and background check is still in progress.
So maybe this line is not a 100% of the enchanced security and may mean anything else, hope that we all will get positive updates soon!

I saw someone's tracker today who had the same tracker line in his history ("Background verification status has been updated to in progress.") and his Background got completed 28 days after that message. I don't know about his case being inland/outland or visa type. But I think we can be hopeful this line is not indicator of being under comprehensive screening.
