Hello i been granted refugee for the past 2 years . ( never returned to my country of origin before ) . my mother passed away now i have to return in order to sort out inheritance matters.
i would need a national id which expired for awhile in order to sort out my things almost all administrative procedures require a national id as i am a dual citizen and foreign is not recognized and usually they ask you that at customs in airport since i am still citizens to my country of origin

would that make ircc scrutinize my case .

ive been reading through this forum and never seen a thread in regards of this matter its only about passports.

thanks for any insights

happy christmas/ new year

You said you were granted refugee status only 2 years ago but also acquired citizenship now? That timeline is a bit odd. Did you get Canadian citizenship or a second foreign citizenship?

If you have Canadian citizenship and a Canadian passport, then there is typically no problem. There is always a remote possibility though that misrepresentation could be alleged if you lied on your refugee claim.

If you have permanent resident status / PR card, then returning to your country of origin or even getting ID from there, would cause issues. So would getting any other foreign citizenship. To do any travel outside Canada, you would need a refugee travel document which is specifically endorsed as not being valid for travel to country of origin.

Wouldn't you be persecuted if you returned to that country? Didn't you tell IRCC and/or the Refugee Protection Division you feared for your life if you ever had to return to that country? Why is an inheritance (property) issue more important than your own life? Isn't there somebody else you can send to sort things out? Did something change in the country conditions that you now no longer have to fear? That's probably just a few of the questions you could potentially face upon return to Canada.
