AOR Received.

Hey there,

I have a quick question,

Upon receiving AOR via my email and my partners email we created an online account with IRCC - the My CIC account.

However I have seen that people are using other accounts such as ECAS/GCMS or something. Is it a requirement to have this account?

If I don't have this ECAS account will I still be informed of updates/emails/document requests?

Thank you :)

Ecas isn't an account, it's just another portal to check the updates on your application. It updates with a lag, My CIC is real time. GCMC notes are notes that can be applied for which gives u detailed notes on your application that a visa officer has made.

Hope this clarifies.

That's great thank you, appreciate that!

Great. Have you managed to link your application to the account created, that is often the tricky bit!

Yes, via either email or MyCIC. ECAS is the crude forerunner of MyCIC, which is still about. As the other poster said, you didn't 'create' an ECAS account, in effect you log in every time. ECAS was / is a much cruder portal and did not support document upload, it was generally just a 'this is roughly where you are in the process' thing - probably aimed at trying to stop people calling up and asking all the time! Most people do not use it now, especially not if you have managed to link to a MyCIC account.

GCMS is nothing to do with either MyCIC or ECAS. These are notes that the various case officers make against your application that under the Canadian version of 'freedom of information' you can request a copy to see what they are saying about you. People only normally order copies of their GCMS notes if their application seems to be stuck for an excessive length of time of if there are weird things going on etc. Official info about GCMS here:

I'll add a little something to this, since everyone is saying that MyCIC is better with updates than ECAS... it's true, up to a point. However, for me, the Decision Made update (you know, the important and exciting update that means an email is on the way soon!) was on ECAS far, far in advance of the MyCIC page. So I'd definitely suggest checking both of them, especially as your case gets closer to complete.

That is not an official site. Not only is it insecure, their About page admits "GCMS Notes is founded in Sept 2012. We are NOT affiliated with any government (official) body."

Whatever you do, do not submit all the detailed info you would need to submit to get your GCMS notes through a dodgy third party site like that! (Basically, don't give them any info that you wouldn't be happy posting on a billboard in the centre of a city)

Ooops!!! Sorry!

Does anyone know if you can send sponsorship papers online as it mentions it at times but I can't see an option, or can you only post them? Thanks
