Accompanying or Non-Accompanying?

My husband has 3 children with a former partner. His son is under his legal custody, and his daughters under his ex's. Although he has custody of his son, his son has often lived with other family members. We were planning on putting all 3 as non-accompanying children, with the intention of perhaps later sponsoring his son to come, after we've settled our life out a bit (a couple of years likely). Now I'm wondering if we should instead list him as accompanying in order to facilitate the matter, even if he does not stay with us in the end? From what I understand, he would need to come with his father when he first comes, but then could go back to his home country and extended family? Any thoughts on the matter?

If you make him accompanying, he will get his PR visa like his father.

He doesn't need to land at the same time, he can land later if it is more convenient as long as it is before the PR visa expires.

If you let his PR visa expire without him landing, he will be in the same situation as the sisters and can be sponsored later.

If he does land, he can go back home but in his first 5 years as a PR (and each 5 year period after that), he must live in Canada for at least 2.

If his father applies for citizenship and the son has at least stayed with you enough that he hasn't lost his PR yet, he can include him in the citizenship application and get him citizenship as well.

Applying as accompanying seems to make more sense .. it essentially only adds $75 to the application right?

How long is the permanent visa typically valid for?

A family member of the principal applicant who is under 22 is $150.

The PR visa is usually valid for a year after the medicals were done.
