Had both the birth certificate and the translation in a folder of stuff that I threw out last week :(

I know that photocopies of the Birth Certificate are acceptable but do I need to get another original of the translation? It was done by a certified translator here in Ottawa who also testified that it was a translation of the true and original birth certificate FWIW.

Should she be called in for an interview. It will not be an issue to obtain another birth certificate, but we don't want to wait another 1-2 months to apply if photocopies of each are fine.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to this, but how about you start with consulting the immigration themselves ..

like .. give CIC a call and ask them about this .. tell them that you haven't applied but this is what happened and want to know how to proceed ..

I don't know how legal aid works, but that's another route you could take ..

if all else fails, then just write a simple honest note and attach it to the copy .. I don't know if you can get a copy translated but doesn't hurt to ask ..

maybe go back to the translator and see if they have a copy on file ???

You need a certified copy of the Birth Certificate if it is not in English or French, as well as a certified translation. See this from the Complete Guide:

Step 2. Gather your documents
Important information: if you don’t include all the requested forms and documents listed on the checklist, we will return your application without processing it.

If you’re unable to submit an item on the document checklist, you must include a detailed explanation of why you can’t submit this document so that your application is not returned as incomplete.

To make sure you send us an application with all the requested documents:

1) Use your checklist to make sure you send all the documents you need to submit:

  • For each item on the checklist, choose the situation that applies to you and check the correct box.
  • Only submit documents that apply to your specific situation. We’ll contact you if we need more information.
  • For any documents that are not in English or French, you must attach:
    • a certified copy of the original document; and
    • The English or French translation, and
    • An affidavit from the person who completed the translation. See Translation of documents below.

A photocopy of a certified document is not a certified document. You need originals, including a certified copy of the birth certificate. Certified copies can only be made with the original document.

Thank you everyone for your comments!

I think we will try to proceed with our application anyways. It is from a translator in Ottawa who certified that her translation is of the original in Serbian language.

Edit: I found the thing and the translation. Now to get it notarized!!
