Hi guys,

I have a question if you could help me make it a little bit clear.

I got an email saying that I have met the eligibility to be sponsored and my wife got a letter saying that she was approved to be my sponsor.

What is the next step ? What is it normally happening after that and how long it might take until I get my PR ?

Thank you very much, this have been a very helpful forum for us.

The next step is that they send your application to the local visa for further processing. At this stage you and your relationship are assessed (including medical, background and security checks).

How long this will take is impossible to even ballpark guess without knowing your local visa office. It's anywhere from months to years.

I did my medical and they received it too.

Also, when they asked me for medical, they asked for my passport too. I sent everything and cic got my medical and sent back the passport.

My local visa office is in Ottawa(I think). I am residing in Ottawa right now. Also, on my cic it says "We sent you correspondence on March 15, 2016 about the decision on your application.". Is this about the letter that my wife got, the SA ? Or something else?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Your local visa office is not necessarily where you reside. In your sponsor's letter or yours they will tell her or you where they have forwarded your application. Processing times depends on the local visa office they sent your application. Do you mind telling us where you reside and whether your application was inland or outland?

Oh, I didn't know that, sorry.
I think that my office is in Mississauga. I live in Ottawa. My application was inland.

Are you sure you applied inland? There is no Sponsor Approval with inland - only with outland. With inland - first stage approval is AIP (approval in principle) - which takes around 16-18 months to process from the time the application is received.

It sounds like you applied outland.

I didn't apply outland. I am sure about that 1000%. It even says on my application. It says "You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor."
I got an open work permit too while my application is being processed.
What is the AIP ? What should it say ?

When did you send your application? It sounds like you got AIP (approval in principle).

I might have, I am really not sure how AIP looks like or what it is.

We received your application to sponsor [name] on November 13, 2014.

We started processing your application on September 10, 2015.

I got an email on 24 last month saying
Code:
"It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as

a member of the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class. Please note that a final decision

will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met.

These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and, if applicable, all of

your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not applying to join you in Canada

at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members have

met these requirements."

They got my medicals.

We sent you correspondence on March 15, 2016 about the decision on your application.

My wife got e letter saying "You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor."

What is the AIP and what would the next step be ?

Thank you to all of you for giving me the time of your day, I really appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure that is AIP. I would suggest you check out the inland threads for more information from those who have gone through that process.

The next step would be DM (Decision Made) and your landing interview.
